I would guess that by now you've gone to bed or something, since you stopped replying in this thread. But maybe you'll read this later on.
One of your aggravations is that there are few generalist ships, that can do a little of everything. I think that at one point there were, but then the ships got repurposed a long time ago because the devs decided each ship should have a function.
Eve is a game of ever-increasing specialization. There is no real all-purpose ship because it is counter to the design philosophy of Eve.
I've been around Eve from the beginning, and let me tell you, the only interesting things early on were the rebalancings of the server (Will there be gate spawns today or can I actually move my Bantam out of that .4 system intact? Will there be Bistot in that .6 system? Survey says... NO!) Three or four frigs per race, then cruises once people could afford them, then slowly, ever so slowly, battleships.
Try mining for a battleship with tech 1 mining lasers. The whole thing. Yourself.
Try only level 1 and 2 missions, each of them a couple of frigates in different bookmarks.
Try only frigate and maybe some cruiser rats.
Try everything else being pretty much entirely player driven.
That is how Eve was for the vets you are so envious of. That was the early game I remember. You think it is boring now? Remove complexes. Remove three quarters of the ship classes. Think spreadsheets as a fun pasttime, because the market was the really fun part.
Now, consider your audience for your pleas for entertainment.
When you complain about CCP not caring about newbs on the one hand and the strength of the community on the other hand, remember that each one developed in conjunction with the other. The community is strong on mentorship and helping because the game came with no directions and the tutorial told you how to mine a rock and disable and scoop a drone. I don't think it even told you how to jump out of the system originally. That fostered the community around you, and the community was purposefully engendered because CCP didn't want to cater to the mass market. They wanted only the players with the smarts to build their own empires and to conduct their own affairs and to mentor and train and exchange valuable information in networks of their own devising.
Content came later, almost as an afterthought. And you are right, it is not really enough to hold the attention of people who can't get into some aspect of the deeper game. And so maybe less than 5% of the trials stick around. Those will be the (supposed) cream of the crop, and contribute to the success of the community and the game.
CCP doesn't need, doesn't want a million subscribers. They don't want players that have to be endlessly entertained. Even the rp support is largely gone, with the disbanding of AURORA. Yet the community perseveres, because it thrives on that kind of adversity.
Those flaming you here are a product of that. So am I. There are others your own age who have posted with their success stories.
My advice to you is, if you can't find a way to make it fun, vote with your pocketbook and go to a game that is more your style. No game caters to everyone's style, this one is still a niche game and always will be. I really don't want a game filled with bored, unhappy players. I know the devs don't, either. I think everyone would like you to be happy, and it just doesn't seem you can be happy here.
I've managed retail stores, and occassionally you get customers who are absolutely correct in their complaints, and there is nothing you can do but tell them, "I'm sorry, we obviously can't fit your needs. May I direct you to this other place that will be able to satisfy you?" After reading this thread, that is the conclusion I have come to about you and Eve.
